The Color Purple

Purple is said to have a relaxing effect and some believe it inspires creativity. Maybe that is why I have been so drawn to it lately.

The color is everywhere I turn. Recently, I finished reading The Color Purple by Alice Walker (for the hundredth time), I have been gravitating toward my purple scarves rather than the earth tones, lavender is my soap of choice, Grape Ape (the TV character, not the wacky tobacky…I swear!) crossed my mind the other day and I feel compelled to snap photos of every purple flower in my garden.

Perhaps as you scroll through the photos, you will feel a sense of calm. Maybe you will leave this page feeling a little more creative. Either way, I hope you enjoy the photos, and if you garden, happy gardening! Don’t you just love spring?

Yes, purple, so peaceful, quieting. The last photo is simply amazing. All rolled up and no place to go’!

Yes, when I think about what you say purple is both energetic and somehow, although it may be entirely cultural, royal.

No, I won’t follow the royal wedding. Although I appreciate that it is important to the Brits, I fail to see the relevance here in the States. I’m still sorting out how we borrowed imperialism from the Brits even though we strived so hard to break away from it. And the repercussions of the English to my Native American ancestors-immensely tragic (I am part British, French Canadian,Irish, and German as well so its a real and personal conflict).

I love the lavenders too, Bill. So vibrant!

Well, Bill, I have to agree with you. I do not see the relevance, and feel quite overwhelmed by the expense and hype that surrounds a wedding such as this. I too have Native American blood running through my veins and find myself with what I imagine is a similar personal conflict. Thanks for your mindful comments.
